Mark Volman, co-founder and singer of the 1960s rock band The Turtles and one half of the celebrated duo Flo & Eddie, died on Friday (September 5) at the age of 78 in Nashville after a brief illness. Born in Los Angeles in 1947, Volman gained fame with The Turtles through hits like 1967’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 smash, “Happy Together,” and “It Ain’t Me Babe,” “Elenore.” Following the breakup of the Turtles in 1970, Volman and bandmate Howard Kaylan formed Flo & Eddie, collaborating with artists such as Frank Zappa, T. Rex, and Bruce Springsteen, as well as composing music for television. After earning his degrees later in life, he taught music business at Belmont University in Nashville. Diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2020, Volman continued performing and published a memoir in 2023 titled Happy Forever: My Musical Adventures With The Turtles, Frank Zappa, T. Rex, Flo & Eddie, and More. Volman is survived by his partner Emily, his ex-wife Pat Volman and their two daughters Hallie Volman and Sarina Miller. (Variety)
